6 La camelia in Italia Originaria della Cina, la camelia si pensa sia giunta in Italia, nel 1760, per abbellire i giardini all’inglese del palazzo reale di Caserta, al tempo del re Ferdinando di Borbone. La specie denominata “la camelia di Caserta”, a fiori semplici e rossi, è, infatti, la più vecchia d’Italia.

Of ancient origin from China, the camellias came to Italy in 1760, to adorn the English gardens of Royal Palace in Caserta, when there was the Kingdom of “Ferdinando di Borbone”. 10 Dopo un declino di interesse verso la fine del XIX secolo e, in alcuni casi, estirpate o bruciate,
alcune specie di camelie trovarono condizioni climatiche ideali nelle zone dei laghi della LOMBARDIA. Nel 1964, per la fioritura e la bellezza di queste piante, fu organizzata la prima esposizione delle camelie che determinò, nel 1965, la fondazione della Società Italiana della Camelia.

the end of XIX century, and in many cases, eradicated or burned, the Camellias found ideal climate in the zones of LOMBARDY’ S LAKES

camellias is most practised, especially along shorelines of lombardy lakes. For beautiful, variety, colour and exotic plants, including the camellias, the gardens of MAGGIORE LAKE, are well-known in all over the world.

14 There are 150 kinds of CAMELLIAS, in various colours, White, Cream Red, Yellow Pink, Fucsia, in many shades.
