6 Article 12: ‘European reference networks ’ 1.The Commission shall support Member States in the development of European reference networks between healthcare providers and centres of expertise in the Member States, in particular in the area of rare diseases. 9 D. clarified options for affiliation with ERNs: if a MS has no members for particular ERN it can designate “healthcare providers with a special link to a given Network” as either: – ‘Associated National Centres’ (focusing on provision of healthcare); or – ‘Collaborative National Centres’ (focusing on production of knowledge and tools to improve QoC)

23 The EC encourages Member States in the development of European reference networks between healthcare providers and centres of expertise in the Member States, in particular in the area of rare diseases.
