6 The present indicative Translates to the English present tense: John eats a sandwich for lunch today. I do my homework at lunchtime You watch television when you get home. Translates to the English ‘-ing’ form: Robert is watching television. I am listening to the teacher They are dancing to the music.

7 Use the indicative when: You are describing an action that is taking place in the present.

8 When you look up a verb (doing word) in the dictionary, you will find the infinitive version of the verb. You need to conjugate this verb to personalise it to the person completing the action.

9 Steps to follow when conjugating a verb. 1. Find the infinitive of a verb (dictionary) 2. Take off the ending (-are, -ere, -ire) 3. Left with the stem 4. Place the stem next to the subject pronoun 5. Add an ending (that matches the subject pronoun)
