Ensure the long-term sustainability of the European e-infrastructure Coordinate the integration and interaction between National Grid Infrastructures Operate the European level of the production Grid infrastructure for a wide range of scientific disciplines to link National Grid Infrastructures M. 9 Draft Objectives EGI_DS (1) Consolidate the requirements for an EGI from the national member states and a broad range of academic disciplines (2) To define the functional role of the EGI with respect to the NGIs at the start of the EGI, and plan for the evolution of its functions as it matures (3) To establish a legal, financial and organizational basis for the EGI to undertake these functions that has support from the member states M. 10 Draft Objectives EGI_DS (4) To establish the EGI and manage the transition from the existing project based grid support to a sustainable production service (5) To ensure that all stakeholders within the member states, international standards bodies, research grid services in other countries, etc are aware of the EGI and have manageable relationships with it. 14 L’Infrastruttura Grid Italiana
E’ finito nel 2006 Grid.IT, Il Progetto Nazionale 3+1 anni 12 M€ ( ) finanziato dal MIUR E’ richiesta a livello EU (eIRG, ESFRI) l’unificazione dei vari spezzoni delle infrastrutture Grid Nazionali in un’unica Organizzazione Nazionale (NGI) che possa fornire un’unica interfaccia verso l’EU Appoggio sostanziale alla creazione di una Associazione, preposta ad una governance comune dell’e-Infrastruttura Italiana da parte di tutti gli Enti pubblici Italiani:INFN, S-PACI, ENEA, CNR, INAF, INGV e Consorzi nuovi PON oltre a varie Universita’ (Riunione al MIUR)

15 I prossimi passi In corso di messa a punto con il MIUR l’evoluzione del Garr in un’Associazione piu’ generale preposta a lungo termine alla gestione di tutte le componenti della e-Infrastruttura: Rete, Grid, Librerie Digitali…. Lo statuto in discussione prevede: Dipartimento Reti (ex Garr) Dipartimento Grid (IGI) ………..Possibilita’ di nuovi Dpartimenti Step intermedio e’ la creazione di una Joint Reserach Unit (JRU) che si propone come unico soggetto italiano di riferimento a livello Europeo Per EGEE III Firma del MoU in corso Coordinamento INFN Uno dei nodi cruciali per il 2008 sara’ per l’INFN gestire il passaggio da INFN Grid a IGI

18 Conclusioni Le Grids e le e-Infrastrutture rappresentano la piattaforma abilitante per la realizzazione dell’Area della Ricerca Europea e per la promozione in Europa della Ricerca Scientifica, e Industriale e Commerciale di frontiera, in grado di costruire massa critica e innovazione in tutti i settori Le e-Infrastrutture, come quella di EGEE basate su grid possono ampliare le possibilità di accesso alla conoscenza creando un nuovo mercato di risorse e applicazioni IT Il 2008 e’ un anno cruciale per garantire la sostenibilita’ futura delle e-Infrastrutture Europea per l’e-Science -> EGI a livello EU (Progetto di design study) -> IGI a livello nazionale
