Status after EYETS CT-PPS spectrometer is taking data with 4 detector technologies Si-Strips and Si-Pixels allowing tracking with improved resolution and radiation hardness; Diamonds and UFSD allowing timing measurements. DAQ commissioning done with CMS central detector, all TOTEM & CT-PPS detectors latencies has been re-evaluated and assigned. First alignment run performed. Timing detectors Diamond detectors, in operation in the horizontal pots, proven that their intrinsic radiation hardness is suitable to be used during high luminosity runs. Moreover R&D on double diamond, reaching an improved time resolution of 50ps, show that this solution is suitable to be used in CT-PPS and can be implemented in 2018. Diamond hybrid design, has been adapted to be used for USFD which are actually taking data in the horizontal pots. Using them in the vertical, during special runs, will significantly reduce the radiation damage risk. F.S. Cafagna, CNS1 13th of September 2017

8 Stato della Collaborazione
La decisione presa da TOTEM, all’inizio del 2016, di “sacrificare” una parte dei rivelatori Si-strips delle RP orizzontali e di modificare gli ibridi dei diamanti per poterli installare nelle RP orizzontali, ha dato una decisiva spinta a CT-PPS. Questo, se da un lato ha tenuto tutta la collaborazione impegnata e concentrata su tutte le attività legate allo sviluppo ed installazione dei necessari adattamenti dei rivelatori e delle infrastrutture, da l’altro ha permesso una presa dati ad alta luminosità durante questi due anni. La collaborazione TOTEM nel suo complesso e stabile e si stà formalizzando in questi giorni l’ingresso della Università di Tomsk (Russia). F.S. Cafagna, CNS1 13th of September 2017

Le richieste per il 2018 Rivelatori di Timing Si richiede la produzione di ibridi per le installazioni dei rivelatori USFD nelle verticali, è necessario produrre una altra partita di schede di front-end e relative spare. R&D per nuovo T2 La richiesta è relativa ad un prototipo di scintillatore e SiPM di lettura, da installare nell'area di test-beam di TOTEM. Distribuzione del clock. Richiediamo due alimentatori, con precisione migliore del percento, per i regolatori di bias dei modulatori elettro-ottici Mach-Zehnder. Dalle misure in laboratorio ci siamo accorti che la pulizia dell'alimentazione è importante ai fini della riduzione del rumore indotto nel modulatore dal sistema di controllo. Riflettori DWDM FBG. Purtroppo due riflettori di sono danneggiati, durante le fasi di test in laboratorio e commissioning in IP5, ed abbiamo dovuto usare le riserve che vorremo ricostituire. Richiediamo un kit di valutazione di un componente con PLL per il segnale TCDS che ha caratteristiche spinte e possibilita’ di lock del segnale con fase costante. DAQ Attualmente il DAQ di TOTEM può essere utilizzato in modalità integrata con CMS o standalone. Il passaggio da un sistema all'altro avviene manualmente, collegando una fibra in un sistema o in un altro. Si richiede lo switch ottico per poter attuare la procedura di commutazione in remoto e senza effettuare connessioni manuali di fibre che le potrebbero danneggiare. F.S. M&O Come d’abitudine, le cifre nel DB sono solo indicative, dato che quelle definitive saranno note a fine anno. In attesa della approvazione, da parte di RRB, del budget 2018 ed in attesa di definire lo share nella collaborazione per il 2018. Come per il passato, è facile prevedere una riduzione della quota INFN dei M&O A, in virtù della riduzione di FTE: a Pisa una «giovane», A Bari il gruppo del Politecnico ha ridotto ulteriormente il suo impegno l’impegno, dato che il sistema di clock è stato installato. M&O B per TOTEM rimangono costanti. Da notare che, per non gravare ulteriormente sulla spesa di MOF, i M&O B di PPS non sono stati inseriti perché proporremo alla collaborazione, come l'anno scorso, di considerarli «in-kind». F.S. T2 & m run In 2015 T2 has been used as veto counter at trigger level to select exclusive events and reduce single diffractive pileup events. We are evaluating the impact of missing T2 and replacing its information with HF calorimeter. The first studies on an unbiased sample taken in 2015 show that HF has only 10% less rejection capability of T2. In 2018 the special run will be performed using the integrated CMS Daq, exploiting at maximum the CMS triggering capabilities. A more sophisticated HLT trigger algorithm is under study to enhance exclusive production and pileup rejection. T1 ha preso dati dal 2011 a 7, 8 e 13 TeV nei runs a bassa luminosita’, come da design. “Missione compiuta”. T1 disinstallato a fine 2016 e tenuto pronto per la reinstallazione. Programma di LHC solo a alta luminosita’: T1 non reinstallato. T1 verra’ spostato in area di storage (probabilmente) in P5. EYETS: T2 status Electronics and HV reported a working detector. Instead there is a severe radiation damage on the cooling and gas services: The plastic tubes around the detector are “cooked” by radiation and became fragile. One of the cooling pipes broke during last closure. Both gas and water pipes are made of the same material, although they are placed on the external side of the detector and far from the beam pipe, they suffered heavily during the last high luminosity campaign. Replacing all the pipes requires a very long work around the detector and the area is already quite hot. The ALARA principle exclude such operation during next EYETS F.S. La trasmissione Modulator working points, must be kept in a linear range of the transfer curve ( quadrature point), controlling their bias voltage. This is done in our system using a specialized bias controller; bias voltage stability has been found dependent from the quality of the controller power supply. F.S. 28 Diamond detectors integration
Diamond detector, designed for the vertical pot, has been modified to fit in the horizontal cylindrical pot. Diamond detectors have been installed during TS1 and TS2.
