M2-M5 1104 camere a filo a 4 gap (circa 400 m2) 112 k canali FE completamente installato e allineato spazialmente si apre e chiude in maniera riproducibile (< 5 mm) raffreddamento elettronica da completare ma in ogni caso T < 34 oC sulle schede di FE HV completa FASE1 tutte le gap alimentate individualmente eccetto R4 (2 gap in parallelo) FASE2 (PNPI) in produzione anche su R4 singole gap 4413 gap/4416 OK

M2-M5 Alignment Summary Chamber alignment: Station alignment:
Accepted precision: In x: 1mm everywhere; In y: 1mm for M2/M3 and 2mm for M4/M5 All chambers are within the accepted precision with the exception of M5C 1C, which is 3mm too high. Chambers M2C 14B and 16B are (on purpose) slightly rotated, to have the chamber center at nominal position (one side 2mm too high, the other 2mm too low). Station alignment: Z: all station are slightly upstream (no problem): M2: 10mm; M3: 5mm; M4: 10mm; M5: 3mm Y: C-side 0.5mm too low, A-side 1mm too low (ok) X: The half-station offset is between 9mm (M2) and 10mm (M5) All half-stations are fully perpendicular (the rotation in M4/5A has been removed) Reproducibility checked after moving walls to better than 5 mm

Gas System Status: In general, the gas system is running smoothly.
We had, however, a minor incident two weeks ago, when due to bad settings of parameters the purifying columns have been by-passed without sending an alarm. The system continued in recirculation mode and we accumulated about 2000 ppM of H2O and 4200ppm of O2. Things are back to normal now (about 300ppm H2O and 15ppm O2 after the chambers). The Muon internal PVSS project for the monitoring of the gas-system has been set up by our summer student (Eirini-Ioanna Bourtzani), which allows us to monitor some important values of the gas system and send warnings/alarms. Follow-up and maintenance of the project is needed. We intend to do it by the CERN group. All chambers are still flushed with the (CO2/Ar 60/40) for cost reasons: CF4 for 1day in vented mode operation costs 1000 CHF. CF4 for 1day in recirculation mode costs 100 CHF. We intend to continue running without CF4 until colliding beams are within reach (10% loss of gain)

Chamber installation and alignment Winter Shudown
Walls and mechanics Cabling has been practically completed on both A and C sides Still to do: some GEM HV and LV, check again proper position of cables on the wall, improve cabling in the inner regions by taking into account chambers’ location and their support. Gas pipes are clean and ready to be installed in cable chain Chamber supports are in preparation in LNF Motorized motion control system in preparation Alignement: some very very preliminary ideas and discussions on chamber alignement, more to come, to be tested when installing the first chambers. Cables and electronics
Signal and control cable connectorization completed on A side and ~50% on C side. Nikolai might be able to continue some of the signal cable connectorization work during this week. Control cables will be checked by Valerio – some connectorization inefficiencies were found All ODE are in the M1 crates, cables and fiber installed. Power ON already performed successfully, but all test still to be done SB have all been installed on A side, and ~50% on C side. A preliminary communication test with a GEM FEBs performed successfully in July FEB and crates LV working and included in the PVSS project Gas systems MWPC ready - GEM partially commissioned

Conclusioni M2-M5 funzionano molto bene hw camere ok al 99,9% !!
il trigger L0 sembra OK un po’ di cose da capire e moltissime da raffinare gli strumenti sono disponibili è necessaria un’intensa presenza al CERN tanto entusiasmo borse simil-fellow: fondamentali Ultima corsa contro il tempo per installare M1 per il run 2009
