4 Toroids status (2/2) Both ECT cold masses apply a 240t pulling force on the BT cold masses, 30t per coil In fact each BT cold mass is magnetically suspended and balanced by ECT A and C Asymmetries give a net force on the BT fixed points that can sustain 10t (only) Forces are transferred through the 8 Axial Force Transfer brackets located at the inner corners of every BT vacuum vessel Precise shimming is required to guarantee no overload in the fixed points and equal sharing among the 2x8 AFT brackets Adjustable AFT brackets with force measuring gages were designed, are installed and must be tested Test a inizio Maggio Atlas Milano – 22 Feb 2008 Chiara Meroni LHCC, CERN, 18-Feb-2008 4 4
