3 IMPERATIVO The Imperative tense communicates orders, instructions, directions or advise and gives someone the permission to do something. The Imperative is used with four conjugations: tu, Lei (formal), noi e voi. Remember: The Tu and Voi forms are identical to the present indicative (*are is an exception – “a”) The “Noi” form is identical to the present indicative and translates the English “let’s…..”

4 IMPERATIVO NEGATIVO The negative Imperative for “tu” is formed by placing the form “non” before the infinitive of the verb. The “noi”/“voi” forms are identical to those in the affirmative (alzati/mettiti/vestiti/mettiamoci/alzatevi) The direct/indirect object pronouns and reflexive pronouns, when used in the affirmative, are attached to the end of the verb to form one word. The only exception is “loro” which is always separate.
