Passato Prossimo implies completed actions. Ex. Ho mangiato una pizza ieri. I ate pizza yesterday. Key words used with Passato Prossimo are: ieri, l’anno scorso, questa mattina, alle tre, una volta, due volte, prima, dopo, alla fine.

Essere: ero, eri, era eravamo, eravate, erano Mangiare mangiavo, mangiavi, mangiava mangiavamo, mangiavate, mangiavano Fare facevo, facevi, faceva facevamo, facevate, facevano Formation: Remove the final –re from infinitive verb. Add: -vo -vi -va -vamo -vate -vano

Uses of the Passato Prossimo: Single, completed event in the past: Sono andata al mare la settimana scorsa. A number of completed events in the past: Sono andata al mare tre volte durante l’estate. Uses of the imperfetto: Habitual events in the past: Andavo al mare ogni estate. Uncompleted or interrupted events in the past: Dormivo quando il telefono ha suonato. Descriptions (physical characteristics, states of mind, location, time, weather, age, etc…) Lui era un bravo studente. Ieri faceva freddo e pioveva. Abitavo a Firenze quando ero giovane.

5 Imperfetto To describe on going actions in the past
( Repeated or habitual actions). Ex: Uscivo sempre. I used to always go out. To describe persons/things in the past, such as appearance, age, mental & physical states, beliefs & for the date& the time of date. Key words are: sempre, di solito, spesso, ogni giorno, in genere,generalmente, il lunedì(on Mondays,as opposed to lunedì, on Monday) Ex. La domenica andavamo in chiesa.(imperfetto) Domenica siamo andati in chiesa.(Passato prossimo)
