Assume il ruolo di primario quando si innesca un failover o switchover (Se attivo il nodo primario diventa nodi backup). Fornisce quindi continuità di servizio quando il nodo primario non è operativo. Dominio di Recovery: Composto dai nodi che mantengono lo stesso set di oggetti replicati in un gruppo. In un modello a due nodi il nodo primario e backup definiscono il dominio di recovery per quel gruppo.

La tecnica stage-and-store di iCluster, accoda le transazioni da processare preservando la corretta sequenza delle attività di applicazione; grazie ad essa è sufficiente interrompere il processo di applicazione delle modifiche, senza però interrompere le repliche tra I nodi. I salvataggi possono cosi essere eseguiti senza problemi di vincoli agli oggetti.
