THE FOOD INDUSTRY NUMBERS SOME 80,000 FIRMS (1997), OF WHICH 79% WITH LESS THAN 10 EMPLOYEES. EXPANSION OF THE INDUSTRY IN THE SOUTH WOULD APPEAR TO BE A STRATEGIC PRIORITY.
