Semplice licenza per Processore, nessuna necessità di contare o tracciare le licenze virtuali. Il numero di istanze virtuali sono indipendenti dall’hypervisor utilizzato

6 Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition
Ogni licenza autorizza 1 istanza attiva su macchina fisica e 1 istanza su macchina virtuale per ogni server licenziato In questo esempio abbiamo 1 istanza fisica e 2 istanze virtuali sono quindi necessarie 2 Licenze di Windows Server 2008 R2 Std Windows 2008 R2 – Standard Edition L’istanza virtuale può ospitare la versione corrente o una delle precedenti versioni di Windows Server Standard L’istanza attiva su macchina fisica può essere utilizzata solo per gestire l’ambiente operativo e il sistema di virtualizzazione.

Ogni licenza autorizza 1 istanza attiva su macchina fisica e 4 istanze su macchina virtuale per ogni server licenziato In questo esempio abbiamo 1 istanza fisica e 8 istanze virtuali Sono quindi necesarie 2 Licenze di Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition L’istanza virtuale può ospitare la versione corrente o una delle precedenti versioni di Windows Server Enterprise o Standard

8 Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter Edition
È richiesta Una licenza per ogni processore fisico 1 istanza attiva su macchina fisica e illimitate istanze su macchina virtuale per ogni server licenziato In questo esempio di un server fisico quadriprocessore (4 processori fisici) Sono riichieste: 4 Licenze di Windows Server 2008 R2 – Datacenter Edition L’istanza virtuale può ospitare la versione corrente o una delle precedenti versioni di Windows Server Enterprise, Standard o Datacenter

9 Modifica licensing CAL di WS08
CAL di Windows Server 2008 non più richieste se Windows Server 2008/R2 viene utilizzato esclusivamente come piattaforma di virtualizzazione. L’unica eccezione è per quei casi nei quali vengono eseguiti ambienti virtuali basati su Windows Server 2008/R2 che richiedono le relative CAL.

Si licenziano solo le istanze ATTIVE, non quelle create o archiviate; prima di utilizzare un’istanza, è necessario assegnarla ad un server Un’istanza viene attivata caricandola in memoria ed eseguendo una o più delle sue istruzioni Una volta attivata, un’istanza si presume attiva fino a che non venga rimossa dalla memoria

18 Riassegnazione: nuove regole per i server applicativi
Dal 1 settembre 2008, i clienti hanno la facoltà di spostare le licenze acquistate all’interno dei contratti di Volume Licensing per 41 server applicativi, all’interno della server farm, senza nessun vincolo di tempo. Il sistema operativo Windows Server NON segue questa regola e mantiene quella precedente. Questa modifica riflette la volontà Microsoft di agevolare i clienti nell’implementazione di un Datacenter Dinamico.

19 Ogni datacenter può far parte di una sola server farm
Definizione di Server Farm Una server farm consiste in un massimo di due datacenter ognuno fisicamente collocato: In una time time zone che sia entro le 4 ore dalla time zone del seconda (Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) and not DST), e/o All’interno dell’Unione Europea e/o della European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Ogni datacenter può far parte di una sola server farm È possibile riassegnare un datacenter da una server farm ad un’altra, ma non entro i 90 giorni della precedente assegnazione
