2 The Trescone is a popular song and dance typical of Tuscany and other regions for example Umbria and Emilia Romagna. It has medieval origins and it is mentioned by Dante and Boccaccio. The name probably comes from the German words thriskan (beat) odresken (thresh), maybe because of the continuous and repetitive movement of the feet. It reminds us of the way how farmers detached wheat grains from the ears; tresca also means "love affair. It is a dance of courtship. Initially it was performed by men who sometimes could play female roles as well, nowadays mixed couples dance it.
