CSN M. Diemoz I PROGRESSI DI CMS
CSN M. Diemoz Outline PROGRESSI DA APRILE AD OGGI SCHEDULA
YB-1 completato Tracker: acquisizione cosmici in atto. Run a T ambiente ok. Run freddo in corso (-10 C). La qualità del rivelatore si conferma eccellente. ECAL: EB- installato, ultimo SM per EB+ pronto inizio luglio. Installazione EB+ anticipata a metà luglio. DAQ e TRIGGER: installazione in progress
CSN M. Diemoz (NUOVA) Schedula LHC Vacuum chambers installed and baked out by end of March 2008
CSN M. Diemoz Installazione del Magnete All magnet systems transferred to the caverns: control, vacuum, cryogenics, powering and protection. Only re-connection work between subsystems is needed. July-October: Commissioning Nov 07: Low current testing (about 400A) in the coil at 4.5K March 08: Final commissioning of the magnet ( ~ 1 week) Progressive current ramps : 3kA, 7kA, 10kA, 14kA, 17.5kA, and nominal, One slow dump at 14kA.
CSN M. Diemoz DT Commissioning
CSN M. Diemoz SX: DT Commissioning YB-1 SX5: YB-1 DTs commissioned using cosmics
CSN M. Diemoz UX: DT Commissioning YB0 Sector 12 Availability of LV supplies DT: prevents simultaneous testing/ commissioning of more than two sectors at once (in different quadrants!) Prime particelle rivelate in UX

CSN M. Diemoz DT Commissioning
CSN M. Diemoz UX: DT Commissioning YB0
CSN M. Diemoz RPC: Problemi e novità LV-HV: circa 20 schede su 120 sono state mandate in riparazione. CMS sta aiutando in tutti i modi (personale) Little impact on the schedule, but additional manpower and resources needed
CSN M. Diemoz EB Commissioning Services –Cooling unit in operation (was used for EB- installation on few SMs). Needs commissioning with large number of SMs and final stability. –DC- DC and AC-DC Low voltage supplies available. –Large fraction of HV supplies already in USC5. The others are still used in H4/867. Will be moved asap. –Two lasers (1 blue, 1 red) installed and commissioned at point 5 in March. Finalize cooling connections early August. Main cabling will start mid August. Each SM will be powered and tested after cabling, connected to its final VME electronics. From then on, we intend to run Barrel ECAL as continuously as possible and to join CMS global runs and cosmic runs. Will organize operation shifts: opportunity to increase the circle of specialists and train physicists to ECAL operation and DQM.
CSN M. Diemoz ECAL EE Crystals Production: last crystals to be delivered end-Mar08 Assembly Progress 20 supercrystals mounted on Dee4 Bat 186 test beam 29 s.c. assembled for Dee1 ( ~140/Dee), 1400 VPTs glued to crystals Critical path components: HV boards, cooling bars, etc, Start mounting s.c. on Dee1 2nd week of July Schedule is very tight Ist Dee ready only at the end of 2007 (Retrofit of motherborads in SMs has had an effect on progress in EE project.) Issues Adequate manpower (to speed up assembly and for management) Work on the back of the Dee is complicated (LV cabling & looming) Concerns Limited experience so far. Much work still ahead. Will not know the exact time needed to get the last Dee until the first one has been completed and tested.

CSN M. Diemoz CMS Commissioning Two areas : hardware/online and offline Plan to commission hardware at pit: DONE: Off-detector electronics and connection to central trigger and DAQ Full chain (front-end to data logging) tested for HCAL, planned this month for detectors connected to USC: CSC and DT LV1 trigger: all hardware components available at Pt. 5. Check of trigger functionality and connectivity ongoing and so far successful. Schedule of Detector commissioning: start commissioning slices of systems and debug functionality of all ‘components’ (front-end firmware, data-links, trigger-links, online software, databases, DQM etc) Plan of regular monthly global runs: First one end of May. Each “run” period will test increasing functionality and complexity. Also serve as milestones and synchronization points for software and computing milestones.
CSN M. Diemoz CMSSW Validation Reproduce with CMSSW framework (1.2M lines of simulation, reconstruction and analysis software) the detector performance reported in PTDR vol.
