Technical Section
PLATO : the mission PLATO (PLAnetary Transits and Oscillations of Stars) M3 is the mission of the ESA Cosmic Vision program dedicated to the study of the physical structure of mass planets like Earth. The 34 telescopes of PLATO, designed by INAF researchers in collaboration with researchers at the University of Bern, are one of the Italian contributions to the mission. PLATO will be launched in 2024 with a Soyuz-Fregat from Kourou, and will operate for eight years observing the cosmos by the L2 Lagrangian point.
PLATO : international cooperations The PLATO mission provides a long international collaboration under the ESA Cosmic Vision program. The figure illustrates the international cooperation at the payload level. The Italian participation in the PLATO project has been defined inside the PMC (Plato Mission Consortium). The implementation of TOU subsystem involves three scientific institutes: INAF (Italy), University of Bern (Switzerland) and Stockholm University (Sweden). The HW supply by the partners of the University of Bern (UBE) and the University of Stockholm (FSO) which will contribute to the implementation of TOU is organised as follows: The mechanical parts of the TOU (STRUCT), relating to flight patterns, the spares and some of the models of development. The coating of the two telescopes Fast window (blue and red, respectively) will be filed and qualified by UST. As for the models related to Phase B / C1 covered by this Technical Annex, they do not involve the use of F-TOU filters, so there will be AFE related supplies.
