Studies on the Laccase-Catalyzed Oxidation of Hydroxy-Chalcones Green chemistry is the utilization of a set of synthetic tools (e.g., Enzymes) that reduce or eliminates the use or generation of hazardous substances in the design, manufacture and application of chemical products. The 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran (DHB) skeleton is widely present in a large number of bioactive natural products. These compounds have been the targets of a substantial number of synthetic studies, as the preparation of substituted DHB is not an easy task. The DHB structure is one of the chemical skeletons which are present in lignin. Mimicking Nature, in which lignin is formed by enzymatic oxidation of suitable precursors, this project investigates the reactions outcomes of laccase-catalyzed oxidation of a series of 4-hydroxy-chalconeses.
