THE HISTORY FACT It’ s the year 1605.A catholic called Guy Fawkes and a group of conspirators try to kill the Protestant King James 1°. They want to blow up the Houses of Parliament with the King and his minister inside.

The conspirators put a lot of gunpowder in the cellars of the building The conspirators put a lot of gunpowder in the cellars of the building. But the King receives anonymous letter and his soldiers arrest Guy Fawkes, he is tortured and executed.

WHAT DO WE DO TODAY? Every year, on November 5 th, people in England commemorate Guy Fawkes. Boys and girls make a Guy Fawkes puppet with straw , paper and old clothes. They ask “a penny for the guy” and buy fireworks. In the evening people lit bonfires and the puppets are burnt.

GUY FAWKES ' NIGHT NEL 1603 RE JAMES 1 SALI’ AL TRONO D’ INGHILTERRA. ESSENDO DI RELIGIONE PROTESTANTE NON ERA MOLTO BEN ACCETTO AI CATTOLICI; ALCUNI DI QUESTI CERCARONO DI ATTENTARE ALLA SUA VITA, APPICCANDO UN INCENDIO ALLA SEDE DEL PARLAMENTO. IL 5 NOVEMBRE DEL 1605, SOTTO LA CAMERA DEI LORD, GLI ATTENTATORI MISERO 36 BARILI DI ESPLOSIVO CHE DOVEVANO ESSERE FATTI ESPLODERE DA UN GIOVANE DI NOME GUY FAWKES. A CAUSA DI UN TRADITORE, GUY FU ARRESTATO, TORTURATO E INFINE IMPICCATO. DA ALLORA OGNI 5 NOVEMBRE SI FESTEGGIA LA SALVEZZA DI RE JAMES.

La sera vengono accesi grandi falò(bonfires) I bambini realizzano un fantoccio di stracci chiamato “Guy” e vanno in giro chiedendo “a penny for the Guy!” con i soldi raccolti comprano fuochi d’ artificio La sera vengono accesi grandi falò(bonfires) sui quali viene appeso un fantoccio con le sembianze di Guy. Di solito fa molto freddo così la gente si riscalda mangiando jacket potatoes e caldarroste.

BONFIRE BAKED POTATOES GUY FAWKES’ NIGHT BONFIRE BAKED POTATOES Cosa serve: Items needed: One potato Una patata One long stick or instrument to shove the potato into the bonfire Uno spiedo o un lungo bastone per infilzare la patata e portarla sul falò Butter,salt ,pepper,and other condiments to lather onto your baked potato. Burro,sale,pepe,e altri condimenti da spalmare sopra la patata arrosto. Find a good potato and wrap it in tin foil . Prendete una bella patata e avvolgetela nella carta stagnola

Take your long stick or instrument to shove the potato gently into the bottom of the bonfire .Watch your fingenrs and eyebrows . Prendete lo spiedo e infilzate la patata nella cenere del falò . Fate attenzione a dita e sopracciglia ! About forty-five minutes later (one hour later , if you picked a very big potato ), pull out that tuber and let coolfor a few minutes Dopo circa quarantacinque minuti ( o un ‘ ora ,se avete scelto una patata molto grossa ) , tirate fuori del fuoco la patata e lasciatela raffreddare per qualche minuto Enjoy ! Buon appetito !
