6 SOME and ANY Quando vogliamo dire ‘una certa quantità di’(=del, della) o ‘un certo numero di’ (=dei, degli, delle, alcuni, alcune) usiamo parole diverse. Nelle frasi affermative usiamo SOME sia con i nomi non numerabili sia con i nomi numerabili.  There is some water in the bottle.  There are books on the desk. Nelle frasi negative usiamo ANY sia con i nomi non numerabili sia con i nomi numerabili.  There isn’t any water in the bottle.  There aren‘t books on the desk. Nelle frasi interrogative usiamo ANY sia con i nomi non numerabili sia con i nomi numerabili. Is there any water in the bottle?  Are there books on the desk?

ECCEZIONE Se la domanda è un’offerta o una richiesta, allora si usa SOME sia con i nomi non numerabili sia con i nomi numerabili. Would you like Can I have some tea? strawberries?

8 MUCH / MANY / A LOT OF Quando vogliamo dire ‘una grande quantità di’(=molto, molta) o ‘un grande numero di’ (=molti, molte) usiamo parole diverse. Nelle frasi affermative di solito usiamo A LOT OF (oppure LOTS OF) sia con i nomi non numerabili sia con i nomi numerabili.  There is a lot of / lots of milk in the fridge.  There are books on the desk. Nelle frasi negative di solito usiamo MUCH (con i nomi non numerabili) e MANY (con i nomi numerabili).  There isn’t  much milk in the fridge.  There aren’t  many books on the desk. Nelle domande di solito usiamo MUCH (con i nomi non numerabili) e MANY (con i nomi numerabili).  Is there  much milk in the fridge?  Are there  many books on the desk?

9 HOW MUCH...? / HOW MANY...? Quando vogliamo chiedere quanto…?, quanta…?, quanti….?, quante….?, usiamo parole diverse. Usiamo HOW MUCH (= Quanto, Quanta) con i nomi non numerabili e HOW MANY (= Quanti, Quante) con i nomi numerabili.  How much milk  is there in the fridge?  How many books  are there on the desk?
