2 In principio era il Verbo, il Verbo era presso Dio e il Verbo era DIO. Egli era in principio presso Dio: tutto è stato fatto per mezzo di lui, e senza di lui niente è stato fatto di tutto ciò che esiste (Gv 1, 1-3) In the beginning was the Word. And the Word was with God and the Word was God; he was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him and without him nothing came to be. Whatever has come to be (Jn 1, 1-3)

3 Dio disse :”Sia disse :”Sia la Luce!”. E la luce fu. (Gen 1, 3) Quel “disse“ di Dio è il suo verbo, la sua parola che per essere recepita dall’umanità ha avuto bisogno di materializzarsi e di incarnarsi in Gesù, figlio di Dio e Dio stesso fatto uomo! God said, said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. light. (Gen 1,3) That ‘said’ of God, His Word which can be heard by men, needed to be materialized, to become flesh in Christ, Son of God, and Himself God made man!

4 In lui era la vita e la vita era la luce degli uomini ; la luce splende nelle tenebre ma le tenebre non l’hanno accolta. 5 Venne un uomo mandato da Dio e il suo nome era Giovanni. Egli venne come testimone per rendere testimonianza alla luce, perché tutti credessero per mezzo di lui. Egli non era la luce, ma doveva render testimonianza alla luce. (Gv 1, 6-8) A man came, sent by God; his name was John. He came to bear witness, as a witness to introduce the Light so that all might believe through him. He was not the Light but a witness to introduce the Light. alla luce. (Jn 1, 6-8)

6 Veniva nel mondo la luce vera, quella che illumina ogni uomo. Egli era nel mondo e il mondo fu fatto per mezzo di lui, eppure il mondo non lo riconobbe. (Gv 1, 9-10) For the Light was coming into the world, the true Light that enlightens everyone. He was already in the world and through him the world was made, the very world that did not know him. (Jn 1, 9-10)

7 Venne tra la sua gente, ma i suoi non l’hanno accolto. A quanti però l’hanno accolto, ha dato potere di diventare figli di Dio: a quelli che credono nel suo nome, i quali non da sangue, né da volere di carne, né da volere di uomo, ma da Dio sono stati generati. (Gv 1, 11-13) He came to his own, yet his own people did not receive him; but all who have received him he empowers to become children of God for they believe in his Name. These are born, but without seed or carnal desire or will of man: they are born of God. (Jn 1, 11-13)

8 E il Verbo si fece carne e venne ad abitare in mezzo a noi; e noi vedemmo la sua gloria, gloria come di unigenito dal Padre, pieno di grazia e di verità. Giovanni gli rende testimonianza e grida: “Ecco l’uomo di cui io dissi: Colui che viene dopo di me mi è passato avanti, perché era prima di me”. (Gv 1, 14-15) And the Word was made flesh; he had his tent pitched among us, and we have seen his Glory, the Glory of the only Son coming from the Father: fullness of truth and loving- kindness. John bore witness to him openly, saying: This is the one who comes after me, but he is already ahead of me for he was before me. (Jn 1, 14-15)

9 Dalla sua pienezza noi tutti abbiamo ricevuto e grazia su grazia. Perché la legge fu data per mezzo di Mosè, la grazia e la verità vennero per mezzo di Gesù Cristo. Dio nessuno l’ha mai visto: proprio il Figlio unigenito, che è nel seno del Padre, lui lo ha rivelato. (Gv 1, 16-18) From his fullness we have all received, favor upon favor. For God had given us the Law through Moses, but Truth and Loving-kindness came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God, but God-the-Only-Son made him known: the one who is in and with the Fa­ther. (Gv 1, 16-18)

10 Gesù, il Dio con noi; l’Amico di tutti; la gioia di vivere; la Pace del cuore; il Maestro buono; il nostro Salvatore; il Santo e giusto; la Sapienza del Padre; Via, Verità e Vita; il buon Pastore; la Luce del mondo; l’acqua viva; il Pane di vita; l’Agnello immolato; il vincitore della morte; il vivente in eterno; il Signore della Storia; il Giudice del mondo; l’alfa e l’omega!
