2 Cycling is one of the greatest inventions of mankind. Already Leonardo da Vinci studied the development of a machine similar to the bicycle, although the history of the bicycle as we know it today began in the nineteenth century. From then to now there has been a clear evolution from the first attempts - heavy, unwieldy and even dangerous - to more modern examples, ie machines that take advantage of the latest technologies and have incorporated several improvements : the invention of the chain of pedals and tires to gear change, to the light weight of materials and the search for new forms, more comfortable and aerodynamic, etc.. THE EVOLUTION OF THE BIKE UP TO 70 YEARS La bicicletta è una delle più grandi invenzioni dell'umanità. Già Leonardo da Vinci ha studiato lo sviluppo di una macchina simile alla bicicletta, anche se la storia della bicicletta come lo conosciamo oggi ha iniziato nel XIX secolo. Da allora ad oggi c'è stata una chiara evoluzione dai primi tentativi - pesanti, ingombranti e perfino pericolosi - ad esempi più moderni, cioè macchine che sfruttano le ultime tecnologie e sono incorporati diversi miglioramenti: l'invenzione della catena di pedali e pneumatici per cambio, all'alleggerimento dei materiali e la ricerca di nuove forme, più comodi e aerodinamici, ecc.

3 Nell’ultimo ventennio dell’Ottocento la bicicletta stava rapidamente diventando un fenomeno sociale in Italia. L’interesse suscitato dal nuovo e rivoluzionario mezzo di trasporto determinò quindi il formarsi di un notevole indotto industriale e commerciale, con la nascita, soprattutto a Milano, delle prime fabbriche produttrici di velocipedi.
