Landini offrirà anche una conferenza (legata alle sue ultime ricerche riguardanti il ms. Theory of Knowledge di Russell) il 19 Marzo ore 11-13, che sostituirà le lezioni del 16 Marzo. Non si terrà la lezione di Mercoledì 1 Aprile

3 Gli abstract di Landini Possiamo già leggerli. Nella prossima lezione vi spiegherò le nozioni chiave presenti nel secondo abstract al fine di affrontare meglio la sua conferenza.

4 Landini 18 Marzo "How Russell's Problems of Philosophy solved the impasse between Rationalism and Empiricism and made Logic the Essence of Philosophy." Abstract: Russell's Problems of Philosophy was written to explain the epistemology of a priori knowledge. For Russell, logical necessity is the only necessity and hence, since what is known a priori is necessary, all a priori knowledge is knowledge of logic. In Problems this includes mathematical logic, the foundations of empirical induction, probability and even ethics. For Russell, philosophy is the study of the ontological foundations of necessity and hence Russell maintains that logic is the essence of philosophy.

5 Landini 19 Marzo "Repairing the Subject of Russell's 1913 Multiple- Relation Theory." Russell's 1913 multiple relation theory of truth (as correspondence) is viable. To understand how, we must repair its subject. The problems of predication, unity, order, and directedness, are orthogonal to it. By appeal to the Quinean technique of variables explained away, we can finally discover the judgment facts that are the truth-bearers accommodating the formidable syntactic complexities of quantified wffs and logical particles....

The subject must, however, be acquainted with two kinds of universals: universals whose exemplification is contingent but whose existence is necessary; and cognitive universals whose very existence is contingently dependent on the mind. Cognitive facts (facts in which cognitive universals occur as relating relations) are not the truth- makers we seek and get in the way of a proper understanding of the correspondence theory of truth.

Per es.  < vuol dire c'è un ente maggiore (di qualcosa) Però in  y(y<x) il quantificatore si applica al primo posto di <. Usiamo l'operatore INV che inverte l'ordine INV  INV< = qualcosa è minore di...   INV< = per ogni cosa c'è qualcosa minore di quella cosa =  x  y(y<x) NB: in  INV< c'è un solo posto libero (un posto è già occupato da  ) e quindi  si applica automaticamente a quel posto. Come in  M = tutto è materiale
