1 IMPRONTA ECOLOGICA ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT
Una presentazione a cura di: Crespi Giovanni, Ciamprone Ileana, La Fata Giorgia, Ba Dillian. Versione italiana ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT A presentation by: Crespi Giovanni, Ciamprone Ileana, La Fata Giorgia, Ba Dillian. English version

2 ..storicamente..

4 ..più precisamente.. L'impronta ecologica calcola l'uso umano delle risorse terrestri in 6 ambiti particolari: Terre coltivate → superficie usata per raccolti destinati al consumo umano, per mangimi animali, per biocombustibili e gomma; Foreste → superficie di foresta destinata a produrre legname; Pesca → superficie marina e di acqua dolce che serve a soddisfare il consumo umano di pesce; Terreni edificati → superficie terrestre coperta da infrastrutture umane; Pascoli → superficie di pascoli usata per allevare bestiame destinato a produrre carne, latticini, pellame e lana; Carbonio → superficie di foreste necessaria ad assorbire le emissioni di CO2 derivanti dall'uso di combustibili fossili;

..l'impronta ecologica totale dell'umanità è stimata in 1,5 pianeti Terra.

10 ..dobbiamo TUTTI, e possiamo TUTTI, fare qualcosa..

13 ..historically.. Mathis Wackernagel e William Rees, with their book entitled Our Ecological Footprint: Reducing Human Impact on the Earth, published in 1996, introduced the concept of ecological footprint, defining it as a standardized measure of demand for natural capital that may be contrasted with the planet's ecological capacity to regenerate.

14 ..practically.. The ecological footprint represents the amount of biologically productive land and sea area necessary to supply the resources a human population consumes, and to assimilate associated waste

15 ..more specifically.. The ecological footprint calculates the human use of land resources in 6 particular areas: Cultivated land → area used for crops intended for human consumption, animal feed, biofuel and rubber; Forests → area of forest designated to produce timber; Fishing → surface marine and freshwater that is used to meet human consumption of fish; Built-up land → Earth's surface covered by human infrastructures; Pastures → surface used to raise cattle for grazing to produce meat, dairy products, hides and wool; Carbon → area of forest required to absorb the CO2 emissions from fossil fuel use;

16 If we were all Americans, we would need..
Using this assessment, it is possible to estimate how many planet Earths it would take to support humanity if everybody followed a given lifestyle, and.. If we were all Americans, we would need.. If we were all Indians, it would be enough..

17 ..the budget is dramatic.. ..humanity's total ecological footprint is estimated at 1.5 planet Earths.

18 ..what can we expect?

19 The predictions for the year 2050 are far from reassuring..

20 But although the responsibility is greater in some countries..

21 ..we ALL must do something..
AS AN INDIVIDUAL, THROUGH THREE SIMPLE STEPS: REDUCE THE THREE“R”: RECYCLE REUSE CHANGING ECO-HABITS: to reduce the impact that our actions have on the environment in terms of CO2; SENSITISATION: many web sites publish studies on the health of our planet and on energy and environmental issues

22 ..AND AS A COUNTRY: PROMOTING GREEN BUILDING: This is concerned to construct buildings or passive class A, ie with the lowest possible values of CO2 emissions, paying attention to the materials used and the energy saving, preferring renewable energy sources. PREFERRING RENEWABLE ENERGY: administrations and companies should move to an eco-sustainable economy.
