Interventi sul rivelatore After the cosmics run ended (Nov ‘08), the detector was opened for a broad program of carefully selected maintenance and repair activities, as well as the installation of the preshower subdetector on both endcaps. Work has progressed according to the schedule laid down in Nov. 2008. The highlights are: the completion of the repairs to the barrel muon DT system the removal, repair, and re-insertion of the forward pixel system the completion, installation and commissioning of the preshower (ES) much progress with the maintenance and repair of other sub-systems good progress with the revision of the tracker cooling plant the maintenance of the general cooling and electrical systems (done before Xmas) Re-commissioning of CMS detector and full data-flow path has begun, with mid-week-global runs every two weeks interspersed with final maintenance and consolidation activities. Powering of the tracker awaits completion of the revision of the tracker cooling plant. Aiming to take a long cosmics run with field-on in July CMS-Padova 19-05-09 M. Diemoz

P5-Riparazioni Muon DT maintenance work started in November is now completed. All interventions have been successful: cells disconnected back to the 0.2% inherited from construction and original installation. Work on YB0 was less difficult than anticipated Interventions on some minicrates, improvements for safety (Additional T sensors, ..), install more Hall probes for field measurement, … Chambers retested and recertified. Optical Hardware Muon Alignment Completed all the necessary repairs, re-adjustments and test of components (structures - MABs, ARs, LDs-, sensors, and readout boards). Preparazione all’analisi - ITA Gruppo per il Coordinamento dell’Analisi: favorire l'inserimento di chiunque voglia fare analisi (giovani e non) nei gruppi di fisica di CMS dando suggerimenti per una partecipazione utile, efficiente e coerente con l'attività di chi già lavora. seguire l’ attività dei similfellow in modo che questa sia utile a tutta la comunità italiana che fa analisi. armonizzare e filtrare gli abstract per la SIF organizzare i reharsal per i talk importanti a livello italiano (plenari SIF, IFAE, CSN1) organizzi il programma dei due workshop annuali CMS fisica/soft/comp sviluppi una serie di strumenti atti a valutare in modo oggettivo l'impatto della comunità italiana sull'analisi (es. % note CMS con nomi INFN, etc.) CMS-Padova 19-05-09 M. CONCLUSIONI Il lungo shut down ha permesso di ultimare le riparazioni programmate in novembre 08 e completare l’installazione del Preshower ECAL. E’ in corso il re-commissioning dopo le riparazioni e il commissioning dei pezzi installati in ritardo (ECAL EE e PS). I dati del CRAFT sono stati utilissimi a mettere a punto CMS, il piano è di pubblicare I risultati prima della partenza di LHC In Italia ci prepariamo all’arrivo dei dati. Speriamo in modo efficace. Ad inizio luglio workshop CMS Italia per fare il punto sullo stato di preparazione e copertura dei temi di analisi fondamentali allo start-up. CMS sarà pronto al data-taking con fasci con anticipo (non vorrei doverlo ripetere mai più!) CMS-Padova 19-05-09 M. Diemoz
