A pair of star cross’d lovers take their life

From age to age One classic story is…

...as timeless as love itself. William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet

William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, USA, 1996, 120 min William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, USA, 1996, 120 min., Regia di Baz Luhrmann.

Shakespeare’s tragedy is postponed to modern times in order to let this tragedy be known as drama, comedy, and tragedy all in one. The purpose of this story is to build a world that expressed the social and economic realities of Shakespeare’s times in the 20th century images. To create the image of a city where religion and the state are as one, a giant statue of Jesus has been put in the real Mexico City, where the movie took place.

Have you noticed how often does the Holy Mary appear in the movie? Do you remember when and where?

What does the last scene suggest you What does the last scene suggest you? What would you do if you were Romeo or Juliet?
