..storicamente.. Mathis Wackernagel e William Rees, con il loro libro Our Ecological Footprint: Reducing Human Impact on the Earth, pubblicato nel 1996, introducono il concetto di impronta ecologica, definendola come un indicatore utilizzato per valutare il consumo umano di risorse naturali rispetto alla capacità della Terra di rigenerarle.

..praticamente.. L'impronta ecologica misura l'area biologicamente produttiva di mare e di terra necessaria per rigenerare le risorse consumate da una popolazione umana e per assorbire i rifiuti prodotti.

..più precisamente.. L'impronta ecologica calcola l'uso umano delle risorse terrestri in 6 ambiti particolari: Terre coltivate → superficie usata per raccolti destinati al consumo umano, per mangimi animali, per biocombustibili e gomma; Foreste → superficie di foresta destinata a produrre legname; Pesca → superficie marina e di acqua dolce che serve a soddisfare il consumo umano di pesce; Terreni edificati → superficie terrestre coperta da infrastrutture umane; Pascoli → superficie di pascoli usata per allevare bestiame destinato a produrre carne, latticini, pellame e lana; Carbonio → superficie di foreste necessaria ad assorbire le emissioni di CO2 derivanti dall'uso di combustibili fossili;

Se fossimo tutti americani, avremmo bisogno di.. Utilizzando l'impronta ecologica, è possibile stimare quanti "pianeta Terra" servirebbero per sostenere l'umanità, qualora tutti vivessero secondo un determinato stile di vita, e.. Se fossimo tutti americani, avremmo bisogno di.. Se fossimo tutti indiani, ci basterebbe..

..il bilancio è drammatico.. ..l'impronta ecologica totale dell'umanità è stimata in 1,5 pianeti Terra.

..cosa dobbiamo aspettarci in un futuro prossimo?

Le previsioni per il vicino 2050 sono tutt’altro che rassicuranti..

Ma, sebbene la responsabilità sia maggiormente di “alcuni” rispetto ad “altri”..

..dobbiamo TUTTI, e possiamo TUTTI, fare qualcosa.. A LIVELLO INDIVIDUALE, ATTRAVERSO TRE SEMPLICI “PASSI”: RIDURRE LE TRE “R”: RICICLARE RIUTILIZZARE CAMBIARE ECO-ABITUDINI: per ridurre l'impatto che le nostre azioni hanno sull'ambiente in termini di CO2; SENSIBILIZZAZIONE: sul web molti sono i siti che pubblicano i continui studi sulla salute del nostro pianeta e sulle problematiche energetiche e ambientali

..ED A LIVELLO LOCALE: PROMUOVENDO LA BIOEDILIZIA: si sta diffondendo una nuova tendenza del costruire, la bioedilizia. Questa si preoccupa di costruire degli edifici passivi o di classe A, ovvero con i valori minori possibili di emissioni di CO2, prestando attenzione ai materiali utilizzati e al risparmio di energia, preferendo fonti di energia rinnovabili. PREFERENDO FONTI RINNOVABILI: le amministrazioni e le aziende dovrebbero muoversi verso un'economia eco-sostenibile

The ecological footprint calculates the human use of land resources in 6 particular areas: Cultivated land → area used for crops intended for human consumption, animal feed, biofuel and rubber; Forests → area of forest designated to produce timber; Fishing → surface marine and freshwater that is used to meet human consumption of fish; Built-up land → Earth's surface covered by human infrastructures; Pastures → surface used to raise cattle for grazing to produce meat, dairy products, hides and wool; Carbon → area of forest required to absorb the CO2 emissions from fossil fuel use;

If we were all Americans, we would need.. Using this assessment, it is possible to estimate how many planet Earths it would take to support humanity if everybody followed a given lifestyle, and.. If we were all Americans, we would need.. If we were all Indians, it would be enough..

..the budget is dramatic.. ..humanity's total ecological footprint is estimated at 1.5 planet Earths.

..what can we expect?

The predictions for the year 2050 are far from reassuring..

But although the responsibility is greater in some countries..

..we ALL must do something..
